You can never be sure of your laptop’s battery life by making some software tweaks. Until and unless you make adaptations in the hardware, the battery will not last long enough. There are ample manufacturers out there who lie about the battery backup in the laptop. Hence to prevent this one must know the amount of power each component drains the battery. The things that will enhance the power of your laptop battery are as follows:

The kind of hard drives that are used today include the likes of Hybrid drives, Hard disk drives or more commonly known as (HDD), mini-PCIe solid state drives and solid state drives i.e. SSDs. Intel’s CULV and M-series processors are the ones which are widely used in laptops as CPUs. CULV processors come in a very special configuration fully soldered to the motherboard. But M-series processors consume above 30 watts till a maximum of 55 watts. But Linux has fewer drivers and non-adaptive default settings which cause a decline in battery performance.Hence, ChromeOS gives the most battery performance out of the lot. But it is only compatible with a limit amount of software. But on the other hand, Windows offers a little less battery life than ChromeOS and is compatible with a large variety of software.

    Most of the laptop manufacturers install Lithium-ion batteries these. These Lithium-ion batteries use graphite anode and will soon be replaced which nano-wire technology. These use silicon or germanium as the anode in a crushed way. These increase the battery power to more than 40%. In theory, the silicon anode technology should produce about 10 times more power than the existing graphite anode technology. Hence laptop manufacturing companies found a way to make the laptops slimmer by making the battery smaller.

In the mid-range laptops, there is always wireless-N (802.11n) with 3.0 Bluetooth. This causes a large drain on the battery taking away more than 5 watts per hour. The technology which is coming in the future is the wireless-AC (802.11ac) along with 4.0 Bluetooth. This causes a high save in the battery life as wireless components always drain the maximum amount of power from the laptop. But the new wireless technology is only compatible with only limited models.

Hence it is recommended to go for the new upcoming wireless technology rather than using the older version which a major waste of battery power.

  • Screen Technology

The cutting edge technology in laptop screens is the IGZO or Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide technology invented by Sharp electronics. These offer screen resolutions of 3200 x 1800 but battery consumption is really low. Statistically, it consumes half the power what normal LCD screens consume. These are only available in high-end laptops and cost less than two thousand dollars. Another technology is the LTPS technology which drains even less power than the IGZO but it costs a lot for using it in laptops.

Hence, it is recommended to use IGZO as the screen technology in laptops to save more battery.

  • Screen Resolution

Screen resolution is the one which also affects the battery in a way. If the user is using the laptop in a high-resolution mode then the laptop will drain more battery. One can also go to settings and reduce the screen resolution to cut the drain in the battery and increase the performance. But generally, by only reducing the resolution the battery drain will not affect much.

Hence by lowering the resolution the battery will drain less.
